SILVERY DEATH CANOE

Worcester, Mass., July 22 -- In this silver-painted canoe, Newell P. Sherman paddled his wife to her death in the waters of Lake Singletary. Authorities charge Sherman deliberately tipped the canoe, spilling his wife Alice into the water. He is accused of first degree murder. - Associated Press Photo.

Sherman, who rented this B. N. Morris canoe for fifty cents, was later convicted and sent to the electric chair.
