About

Hi! My name is Dan Miller, and I am the curator of this online Wooden Canoe Museum.

This digital museum is the result of a long-time passion for collecting all things related to wooden canoes and their manufacture in North America. I first learned about wooden canoes in the 1980s while a college student, when I chanced upon the Annual Assembly of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association at Paul Smith's College in New York State's Adirondack Mountains. Since that time, I have learned to build and restore wooden canoes, which I continue to do as Dragonfly Canoe Works.

I have also been intimately involved with the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association in many capacities, including as board member, web master, and editor of the WCHA journal Wooden Canoe. I am also a former curator of the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, New York, and former executive director of the Alexandria Township Historical Society in Alexandria Bay, New York.

Unless otherwise noted, all of the content on this site is drawn from my personal collection. If you have found this site useful, please consider making a donation of any amount to help support the site and allow for the addition of new material.
