Glenwood

This image was made from the original photograph used in the article “Canoeing in America” by Lee J. Vance that appeared in the October 1893 issue of Cosmopolitan. Using methods that predate Photoshop, the image has been manipulated using a white masking ink to create the border around the sides and bottom of the photo, and to create the illusion of clouds at the top.

The canoe shown is Glenwood, which was owned by Theodor Oxholm. Mr. Oxholm lived in New Brighton, New York, and was a member of the Yonkers Canoe Club. His ACA membership number was 1420.
