This photo of movie actress Doris Westonwas taken while she was filming Submarine D-1 in 1937. Submarine D-1 was one of nine movies she appeared in between 1937 and 1939. Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan was to have appeared in Submarine D-1, but his scene ended up on the cutting room floor.
Doris is paddling a wood canoe on Toluca Lake, a private lake in an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood. Notable residents of Toluca Lake included Bob Hope, Amelia Earhart, Frank Sinatra, and William Holden.
