Canoeing

This rather awkward-looking canoeist isn't really on a postcard, but on a trade card that advertises Crawford Shoes on the back side. The canoe itself is in the Rob Roy class - a double-paddle decked canoe of the sort made famous by John MacGregor in his travelogues published in the 1860s, starting with A Thousand Miles in the Rob Roy Canoe. This book, along with its sequels, initiated the popularity of canoeing as a recreational pastime.
