Years in Business
late 1890s - 1903
Durand Manufacturing Company of Rochester, New York, was in business in the late 1890s (and certainly by 1900) and closed in 1903. They built canoes, St. Lawrence River skiffs, and launches. They were noted for a foot-powered propulsion device that was installed in their launches.
An extant 1902 catalog indicates that the canoes were built by an unnamed Canadian builder with 20 years experience.
At least one example of their strip-built canoes was splined with thin brass stock in the same manner as done by Capt. George Ruggles (also of Rochester).
